Year 1 Week 6: Food & friends

A vacation is always about meeting new people, catching up with friends and eating.

This was exactly what we did in the first week after we arrived in Mestre, and Antonio met many of daddy's friends who immediately took to him.

There was Alberto whom we met for dinner at Mandrillo on May 28; Isa who treated us to lunch at her restaurant, Ai Veterani (The Veterans), on May 29; and Paki, Linda and Ricardo who joined us for dinner at La Corta on May 30.

Everyone wanted to have their picture taken with Antonio, and this is just the beginning of it!

Year 1 Week 6: Computer freak

We had gone to Vicenza looking for the authorized Apple repair agent.

Moments after we walked in, Antonio became distracted:

Although the computers were old models and not operational, Antonio continued typing on the keyboard, imitating how mommy and daddy spends time on our own computers at home.

When it was time to leave, it was almost impossible to remove him from the Macs. Roberto was quite tickled by this.

Like father, like son. So mommy says.

Year 1 Week 6: Venice, baby!

"I'm in Venice, people! I'm half Italian, which makes me a quarter Venetian.

We had a fun day out, only because I got to sit in my stroller as daddy pushed me around in it, or carried it up and down stairs with me in it. Hmm... I besides me, mommy also had a good time just strolling along and taking in the view."

Year 1 Week 5: It's a Long Way, Baby!

It is the first long-haul flight for Antonio, as we fly from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, to London on AirAsiaX for a six-week vacation in Italy and London. Here we are, at the beginning of the flight, and before Antonio fell in to one of his longest sleeps ever.

We left KL on May 20 and arrived the same day in London before catching a transfer to Treviso airport in Venice.

Year 1 Week 3: Summary

And away we go!

Ever since he discovered the ability to walk, walking has been the activity that takes up the most of Antonio's day. Any chance he can get to walk on his own, he will.

This means wriggling his way out of the nanny's arms so that he can explore the local area on his own two legs; traversing the space between rooms, with the excuse of following the person who happened to walk away; tracing circular paths in his bedroom, as if he was looking for something in the process.

The increased activity means he tires more easily. So he either takes two hour-long naps - the first is after he has eaten following the morning walk, the second is during the afternoon walk and falls asleep by 9pm - or he takes the morning nap and is completely out by 7pm. Either case, he manages to stay asleep until 6am.

Every two to three days, he will wake at 5am and start crying or fussing. Half an hour later and he has taken a dump! After he is cleaned up, he asks to be nursed and falls back to sleep again.

During the times when I nurse him in the night, I notice how Antonio has lengthened - the arms and legs are more lean, and his cheeks are not that chubby anymore. We really need to measure him again!
